Presbyterian Church of Cloquet September Newsletter From
the Pastor Greetings, We have been in ministry together for one month! It does not seem possible, but it has been one month already. I have discovered that many people travel and vacation in August. I have tried to meet many of you when you were traveling or working, and I pray that we will connect soon to meet and visit with one another. As you read this article, my driving 100 miles round trip from Lake Nebagamon to Cloquet will just be a memory, as we have moved to 1503 Selmser Avenue, Cloquet, literally with your help, and we are very grateful for your lifting, packing, and unpacking during our move. Our phone number is 878-1564. As I look at the month of September, we will start our Christian education on September 12th. As you will find elsewhere in the newsletter, we are showering the start of the educational year with needed supplies. Please bless our Christian educators with your support and prayers. We will re-dedicate our stained glass window on September 12th during our Sunday worship. The early morning sun through this window is an inspiration to serve our God. After our August session meeting, we viewed the window with the new night lighting that has been installed and I was once again inspired. Please join us for the re-dedication on the 12th. The same Sunday, we will gather after worship at Jerry and Betty Starkey's home for a church-wide picnic. Please come with a dish to share and enjoy the day. On September 19th at 3:00 p.m., I will be installed as your designated pastor. I look forward to publicly declaring that you and I are ministering for God together. This could mean that you will worship twice on the same Sunday, something we Presbyterians do not do often, as I was reminded by a friend's granddaughter. At my ordination service in July, this young girl told her younger brother to spend the Sunday afternoon with their dad, because if he came with his mom, he would have to go to church again. She told her brother that a friend of their grandparents was being pastorized at their old church. I thank God for the honesty of children and grandchildren and that I survived being pastorized. -- Sincerely, Marli NOTE: On Sunday, September 12, we'll have our annual church picnic at Betty and Jerry Starkey's home on Overlie Road, beginning at noon (rain or shine). Wear your picnic clothes to church, and bring a potluck dish to share. Bratwurst, hot dogs, and buns will be provided. Directions to Starkeys' house: Take Highway 210 west (past the Black Bear Casino), turn left on County Road 5, right on Overlie Road, then right at the fork in the road. Watch for 2407 Overlie Road. Rides will be provided from the church, leaving following the worship service. PW News The Presbyterian Women will present their autumn Salad and Hot Dish Luncheon from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23. A Congregational Transformation Conference will take place October 15-16 in St. Paul. Marli will attend with any members of our congregation who are interested. The location is the Holiday Inn East, where lodging is available. The organizers believe that the word transformation is "a lot more than a new name for church 'redevelopment.' It's a new attitude and confidence that congregations and every part of Christ's church must and will change if we are to continue to be faithful to the gospel and to the Great Commission in a rapidly changing world. Whether you're from a small rural church, a new multi-ethnic congregation, or a fast-growing suburban church, the conference will empower you with new vision, ideas, resources, and connections." Please contact Marli or the church office if you'd like to attend. Dear Pastor
